S3 Design developed the athletics and recreation components for the campus master plan led by Ayers Saint Gross Architects and Planners. The planning effort evaluated the existing indoor and outdoor facilities and investigated several scenarios for facility upgrades, expansion, and replacement.

The recreation and athletics planning builds on the existing green edge along the riverfront to expand outdoor field opportunities, connecting the fields, buildings, and campus through active and passive recreation and campus pathways.  

The preferred option outlined a phased approach to incrementally create a new centralized campus hub for recreation by co-locating a new aquatic facility and ice arena linked to the existing recreation center. For athletics, the spectator experience is enhanced by better parking, accessibility, circulation, amenities, and restrooms. The overall plan maximizes the existing space by reorganizing some key areas and by recommending strategic additions where needed.
