University of Rochester, Fauver Stadium Improvements - Rochester, NY

Project Summary

S3 Design began working with the University of Rochester on a planning and feasibility study to evaluate potential improvements to the historic Fauver Stadium.  The study included programming and the development of multiple options to improve the spectator and athletics experience. The study developed a series of options that included different combinations of renovations and additions to best meet the target program goals.

The first part of the project to be completed was a new press box and concourse renovation, for which S3 Design provided complete architectural services. For the second part of the project S3 Design worked with Ayers Saint Gross to provide bridging documents for procurement of a design-build contractor to complete a multi-use building containing student life, student housing, and athletics programs.

The base of the building nestles into the hillside bowl at the south end of the stadium and features new varsity athletics facilities, including varsity locker rooms, sports medicine suite, hydrotherapy suite and equipment issue, maintenance and storage rooms for the Yellowjackets teams.

The terrace level serves as the building entry and forms a campus connector that bridges across the stadium to harness  the energy athletics  into the everyday campus circulation sequence. This level contains open student life functions including meeting rooms for study groups and student organizations, offices for health professions, career, academic advising, fellowship, and stem advising.

Above that, the residential floors feature single and double units. Lounges are designed with floor to ceiling windows to maximize daylight and provide views to the athletic field.
