Equinox Sports Clubs - Bethesda, MD

Project Summary

Equinox’s second club in the Washington D.C. market is located in downtown Bethesda.  The club design was inspired by the natural settings of the community, and its unique relationship between the natural aspects of Glen Echo park to the vibrant downtown storefront atmosphere. This contrast was evoked with the natural stone materials in coordination with vibrant blue tones.  The most striking attribute of the club is the two-story fitness area with large windows that provide an abundance of natural light.  These windows provide members the ability to see up and down Hampden Lane.  The Group Fitness Studios located on the corner of the building also take advantage of the same view and provide a moving display that showcase one of Equinox’s most popular offerings. The locker rooms were designed with the hotel elegance that Equinox members are accustomed to.  With a small foot print on the first floor the check-in area was condensed to also flow like a boutique hotel in an urban setting. The Yoga studio is nestled on the basement level.  Warm tones and natural woods, breathe a Zen-like component into the yoga experience.

Sustainability

Bethesda is located in Montgomery County, Maryland.  One of the county requirements is LEED certification for all new buildings.  The base building design is LEED certified and the Equinox space will also be LEED certified, and is currently going through the LEED review process.
